How to store weight loss medications

If you're on a weight loss journey with medications like Wegovy and Mounjaro, keeping them stored correctly is very important.

Here's how you can make sure they stay safe and work well:

1. Keep it cool – but don’t freeze

These medications need to be stored in the fridge, but they should never freeze. Keep them at a cool temperature, between 36°F and 46°F (2°C and 8°C).^1,2 If they freeze, they might not work as they should. If this happens, consult a clinician before using them.

2. Protect it from direct sources of light

Direct light can harm the medication. Avoid placing medication directly under lamps or other close light sources. It’s best to store the medication in the fridge, so always follow the patient information leaflet or ask your pharmacist for storage instructions. If you think your medication has been exposed, contact your healthcare provider.

3. Safety first

Make sure your medications are out of reach of kids and pets. It’s a good idea to store them in a high or locked cabinet. Also, make sure everyone in your home knows that they shouldn't play with or eat these medications.

4. Keep track of the expiry date

Check the expiry date regularly. If they're expired, don’t throw them in the rubbish. Instead, take them to a place that will get rid of them safely.
